Cancellation of Long-Term Residence Permit and Right to Reapply in Turkey

The cancellation of the long-term residence permit in Turkey can occur under certain conditions, primarily related to public order and security, or extended absence from the country. This article explains the criteria for cancellation and the rights of foreigners to reapply for the permit.

If a foreigner is identified, with support from relevant security units, as posing a serious threat to public order or security, their long-term residence permit will be canceled. In such cases:

• The foreigner cannot apply for any other type of residence permit specified in the Law.

Foreigners who remain outside of Turkey for more than one consecutive year (except for reasons like health, education, or mandatory public service in their home country) will have their long-term residence permit canceled.

Foreigners whose long-term residence permits were canceled due to extended absence may reapply for the permit. The process includes:

• An assessment by the administration upon reapplication,
• A final decision made within one month.
